FAQ

Questions, answered.

What is StrixGeo?

A desktop platform for building ground models. It turns CPT, borehole and laboratory data into a stratigraphic model, a lithological model and a geotechnical model, with derived parameters and statistics for each unit.

Which data can I import today?

CPTs (.gef) and boreholes (.xml), plus public laboratory data. In Belgium, public CPT data from DOV can be imported by drawing an area on the map. More sources and laboratory tests are in development.

Which regions are supported?

Belgium (Flanders) first, including public DOV data. The Netherlands is wired in and will follow once its data is loaded.

Does StrixGeo do design calculations?

No, by design. It builds and validates the ground model. Design checks such as settlement, bearing capacity and Eurocode (EC7) stay in your design tools, like PLAXIS, D-Sheet and GeoStudio.

What are the three models?

The stratigraphic model (by formation and member) and the lithological model (by material) are interpreted separately, then synthesised into the geotechnical model, which is the single ground model you work from.

Which design tools can I export to?

StrixGeo exports to DXF (sections and fence diagrams), PLAXIS 2D and 3D, D-Stability and D-Sheet Piling, with stable unit identifiers so your model stays consistent across tools.

What does StrixGeo cost?

Nothing. StrixGeo is free and open source under the GNU AGPL-3.0-or-later. Get the Windows installer from the Download page, or read and build the source on GitHub. If it saves you time, you can sponsor the development.

Do I need a key or an account?

No. There is no key, no activation and no expiry. Use Help then Check for updates to install a new release; your projects open as before.

How do I report a bug?

Email info@strixgeo.com with three things: the project file (File then Save, attach the .strix), the support logs (Help then Save logs for support, attach the zip), and two or three sentences on what you did, what you expected and what happened, plus a screenshot when it is visual. The Support chapter of the manual has the full detail.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

No. StrixGeo is a desktop application and your project stays on your own disk. The app does not phone home. StrixGeo keeps a redacted diagnostics log on your disk and sends nothing by itself; sending it to a server would need your explicit opt-in and a configured endpoint, neither of which the app offers today. The website itself sets no analytics or advertising trackers; see the Privacy and Cookie policies.

Which platforms are supported?

Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit) first, with macOS to follow. The installer is not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen shows a warning on first run; the Download page explains how to proceed.
